MusicTag Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 4, 2026
MusicTag is an iOS app for writing and reading your favorite music to NFC tags. This Privacy Policy explains how
MusicTag collects and uses device features and local data when you use the App.
1. Data and device features the App uses
- NFC: The App uses the device's NFC (Near Field Communication) capabilities to read from and
write to NFC tags. The App requests NFC access via the platform's standard permission flow.
- Music Library: The App accesses your device's Music Library to retrieve and display
information about your music. The App uses this strictly to provide music metadata and integration with Apple
Music.
- Apple Music: If you have an Apple Music subscription, the App integrates with Apple Music to
fetch music information, artwork, and playback details. This requires your existing Apple Music account and
permissions.
- Shazam Recognition: The App can recognize music using ShazamKit. When you use the Shazam
recognition feature, audio data is processed locally and on-device for identification purposes.
- Local storage & diagnostics: The App stores local preferences, your NFC tag collection
data, and small usage information on your device. All data remains on-device and is not sent to third-party
analytics services.
2. What the App collects
- NFC tag data: When you write music to NFC tags, the App stores music metadata (song name,
artist, album, artwork) on the physical NFC tag. This data is stored locally on the tag itself.
- Music metadata: The App stores information about music you've added (artist names, song
titles, album artwork, Apple Music links) locally on your device for tag management and viewing.
- Local preferences: The App keeps local settings and preferences (theme, sorting preferences,
etc.) to enhance your experience.
- Usage information: The App may track limited on-device statistics (number of tags created,
last used) to display usage information in the app UI.
3. How the App uses and shares data
The App uses device features strictly to provide core app functionality: discovering music, storing music
information on NFC tags, and managing your tag collection.
All music metadata and tag information remain on your device and on the NFC tags you create. The App does not
transmit your music data, tag information, or personal usage statistics to external servers by default.
MusicTag does not include third-party analytics, tracking SDKs, or advertising services.
4. Third-party services and SDKs
The App relies on Apple's system frameworks:
- MusicKit: For Apple Music integration, if you have an account
- ShazamKit: For music recognition features
- CoreNFC: For reading and writing NFC tags
Any communications performed by these system services (for example: Apple Music API calls, Shazam recognition) are
governed by Apple's privacy policies. The App itself does not transmit personal data to third parties.
5. Data retention and deletion
- NFC tags: Music data written to your NFC tags remains on those tags. To remove data from a
tag, you can write new information to overwrite it or use the App's tag management features.
- Local app data: Music metadata and preferences are stored on your device. Deleting the App
removes this local data.
- Music Library: The App does not store a copy of Apple Music data; it accesses it through
Apple Music's framework.
6. Your privacy rights
- Access: Because MusicTag does not create user accounts or centralize data on servers, your
music information and tag collection remain on your device and your NFC tags. You can access and manage this data
through the App.
- Deletion: Delete the App to remove locally stored music data and preferences. Data on NFC tags
can be managed or deleted through the App's tag management features.
7. Security
The App stores all data locally on your device and on NFC tags you control. NFC tag data is only accessible
through physical proximity to your device. Sensitive operations such as in-app purchases are handled by
platform-managed Apple services.
8. Children
MusicTag is appropriate for general audiences. The App does not knowingly target or collect information from
children under applicable age thresholds.
9. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in the App or applicable laws. The "Last updated" date indicates when
this document was last revised.
10. App permissions & usage strings (Info.plist)
- NFC: "We use NFC to read from and write music information to NFC tags."
- Music Library: "We access your Music Library to help you find and identify songs."
- Shazam Recognition: "We use Shazam to recognize songs you want to save to NFC tags."
